Chase Padgett (b. 2003) soaks acrylic into drop cloths and draws on top with pastels. Starting with a reference to a space, the materials dictate the finished image. The paint and water stretch and warp the cloth; the drips and drawing repel groundingness; the disorienting palette and folds of the cloth deny comfortable reality. But this is not a rejection of reality; it is an acceptance of it. In the age of information, truth and fact are seemingly subjective; feelings take precedence over facts.
